In untitled homeKatthy Cavaliere imbues the humble plastic shopping bag with a theatrical presence, giving gravitas to the transient life of the unhoused. Originally presented as a sculptural installation at MOP Projects in 2007, this photograph illuminates the bags, inflated with the artist’s own breath, to tell the story of a transient life.

Of the work, curator Daniel Mudie Cunningham writes, “The homeless are exposed to the elements, their vulnerability on display to a world that often conveniently ignores their plight. Cavaliere reveals how passers-by erect invisible structures when unable to comprehend private moments being performed in public: everyday life lived in open, on the street.”
