Goods Line Tunnel image from Australian Railway Historic Society's Bulletin 1958

Read an article about the historical railway tunnel Ian Burns has used for his site specific installation Extended Stage. The tunnel is the Goods Line Tunnel that ran from Central station, taking everything from food to wool to timber to Darling Harbour to be transported around Australia or overseas.

The tunnel has been closed for use for decades and this is the first time it has ever been open to the public to walk through. Inside the tunnel is a sandstone arch dating back to the first railway system in NSW built in 1853. Burns has used this overhead bridge as the culmination of his installation.
